Business casual style - what does it mean?

The word "casual" from English means "everyday". So, this style takes into account that these are to be everyday clothes, without excessive elegance. However, the word "business", which in Polish simply means business, limits us a bit on this everydayness, that is, it does not fit into this style to wear home sweatpants, a stretched T-shirt or rubber flip-flops.

Business casual style - what to avoid?

In addition to the examples indicated above, we stick to the rule that we do not wear sports clothes in this style. Jeans, on the other hand, are acceptable in subdued colors and certainly without appliqués, ornaments, holes or flared spots. You should also too flashy colors, excessively patterned fabrics and too flashy jewelry and other accessories. If you like this kind of styling, you should leave it for off-duty time.

Business casual style - can I smuggle in a little of my personality?

Business casual style gives us much more opportunity to express ourselves than business classic style. It is important that the styling is composed into a coherent toned whole. Below we will show you which cuts of various clothing items are best to choose from.

Business casual style - pants

If you like pants - you can choose not only suit pants, but also a number of other cuts, from which you can choose the ones you like best, in which you feel and look best. Chinos, cigarette pants, cullots, pallazo, mumfit, a la Marlene and others. However, combat boots, joggers, alladines, cargo or slouchy will not look professional. In terms of length, fishnets are the shortest acceptable length, but it is best to aim for ⅞-inch and classic-length pants. We do not recommend pants that are too long, whose legs cover the shoes. Pants can be in muted stripes or checks. You can wear pants in a bolder color, as long as you tone it down with the rest of your styling.

Business casual style - skirts

If you feel like wearing a skirt, the world offers many cuts that will work for business casual style. The most obvious choice is a classic skirt, a pencil skirt, no shorter than before the knee. A tulip cut may be a good choice. Rather, we do not choose pleated skirts, ruffled skirts, skirts with deep slits. The best lengths are before the knee, behind the knee and to mid-calf.

Business casual style - dresses

When choosing a dress, be guided by comfort and elegance. The dress must not be, like the skirt, mini length. Maxi dresses will not work well either. Aim for medium lengths, just as with skirts. A strapless dress does not go well with this style. The safest will be at least short-sleeved. As for the neckline - it will not look elegant too deep. On the other hand, necklines of average depth, regardless of their shape, as well as collars and turtlenecks, are as good a choice as possible. Avoid dresses with too large cutouts. Summer patterned dresses are not a good choice.

A pencil dress, a dress with a basque, a classic unexaggerated bombshell, a trapeze dress or a dress with a slightly flared bottom in muted colors will work perfectly.

Business casual style - what to wear on top?

The described style allows subdued blouses, shirts. It is not necessary to wear a jacket or blazer, however, if comfortable, it is welcome. However, you can just as well wear a cardigan or an elegant sweater. As with dresses, we do not allow ourselves too deep necklines or revealing shoulders. The top of the outfit should tone down the whole, if the lower part of the styling is of a bolder color. As for the cut of blouses, shirts or sweaters - we rather avoid oversized styles.

Business casual style - what colors?

As we mentioned earlier, subdued colors are the safest. An outfit of uniform colors will always work. A combination of white with black, navy blue, blue or gray will also look good. If you prefer warm colors, beiges, of course, will always fit into this style. Mustard color or dark brown will also be a good choice. Dark purples and greens or muted maroon or pastel pink are acceptable. If you feel like wearing red, cornflower, or light green pants or skirt, wear a white blouse, shirt or sweater on top - they always tone down the styling and it will look more professional. However, in this case, make sure that the dress code in your work environment allows for more vibrant colors. When it comes to patterns, the bottom pieces of clothing, or a jacket, can be checkered or striped. If you choose the top of your outfit in such patterns or small peas, wear a plain uniform bottom to keep the whole outfit elegant.

Business casual style - what kind of shoes?

Fortunately, you don't have to go to work in stilettos if you don't like them. Feel free to wear shoes with lower heels or completely flat, as long as they are elegant. Don't wear espadrilles or athletic shoes. It is in good taste to have shoes that cover your toes and heels, so avoid peeptoe styles or sandals.

Business casual style - summary

As you can see, you can dress for work elegantly and comfortably, without losing the opportunity to smuggle in your own styling preferences. Complete the whole thing with appropriate jewelry, comb your hair in an everyday style, not exaggeratedly styled, if you feel like it, do subdued makeup and gently dab yourself with perfume ( we do not overdo it for work!) and you can be sure that you look perfect.
